We recently participated in a thought-provoking discussion on Brutkasten, where our CEO, Richard Ljuhar, alongside Prof. Hans-Peter Dimai from the Medical University of Graz, delved into the latest advancements in osteoporosis management with our innovative tool, IB Lab FLAMINGO.
Prof. Dimai provided a backdrop on the significant challenges osteoporosis poses, emphasizing the disease's silent but dangerous progression. The session underscored the critical need for early and accurate detection, setting the stage for discussing our innovative solutions.
Prof. Dimai and Richard explored how IB Lab FLAMINGO is enhancing the detection of osteoporotic fractures. Our latest tool screens routine CT scan opportunistically and flags clinically relevant vertebral fractures according to Genant scoring. IB Lab FLAMINGO's key role is making use of the significant amount of data collected globally and annually during CT scans. The tool not only identifies such conditions more efficiently but is also crucial in streamlining workflows for radiologists and referring doctors.
The effectiveness of IB Lab FLAMINGO has been validated at Linköping University Hospital in Sweden. Radiologist Dr. Mischa Woisetschläger and endocrinologist Dr. Anna Spångeus are driving the progress at the site and are already working on more clinical evidence. Another key institution is the Medical University of Graz where osteoporosis expert Prof. Hans-Peter Dimai himself is working on a study promising significant revelations.
A portion of the discussion was dedicated to the economic implications of undetected vertebral fractures. Prof. Dimai highlighted the substantial costs associated with late diagnosis, which often results in severe complications and increased healthcare spending. Future studies promise to shed more light on reducing these costs through earlier detection and management.
