ImageBiopsy Lab is incredibly proud of the nomination of our innovative product, IB Lab FLAMINGO, for the 2024 Houska Award. The nomination by the B&C Privatstiftung recognized the groundbreaking advancements of FLAMINGO in radiological diagnostics for osteoporotic vertebral fractures. Being selected as one of 15 finalists among 73 submissions is a significant achievement that demonstrates our commitment to advancing applied research in medical technology.
The Houska Award [1], Austria's largest private award for applied research, celebrates projects that drive economic growth and innovation. This recognition places us alongside leading research initiatives across the country, reinforcing our dedication to delivering AI-powered solutions that elevate diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.
IB Lab FLAMINGO is our first CT software tool, designed to opportunistically detect osteoporotic vertebral fractures (VFs) during routine CT scans taken for diverse indications. Up to two-thirds of VFs currently go undetected and undiagnosed [2], imposing a significant burden on healthcare professionals, healthcare systems, and patients.
With its AI-powered algorithms, IB Lab FLAMINGO detects and classifies VFs based on the Genant classification, highlighting only clinically relevant fractures. By providing this level of diagnostic support, FLAMINGO assists radiologists in identifying fractures quickly and accurately, streamlining the workflow, and enhancing patient care.
To bolster FLAMINGO's clinical evidence, we are working with various sites on retrospective studies. Early results reveal a significant number of previously undetected fractures, emphasizing the critical need for FLAMINGO's diagnostic capabilities.
This nomination underscores the potential of FLAMINGO to transform the diagnosis of vertebral fractures, improving detection rates and helping healthcare providers deliver more efficient and targeted treatment.
