Artificial intelligence (AI) is a computer-aided method for data processing, which is used very widely for automatic prediction and recognition of properties on e.g. image data. We use this method to automatically detect disease symptoms on radiograph and classify them into severity levels.
For this purpose, the annotations of disease symptoms are mapped by thousands of physicians on ten thousands of images in a statistical model. This model diagnoses acquired radiographs, with a similar accuracy as the doctors who made the original diagnoses.
If a physician has this artificial intelligence available in his practice, he can automatically consult the assembled knowledge of thousands of clinical experts on new cases as a second opinion. This expert knowledge increases the accuracy and consistency of the diagnosis. The physician saves time, can be more focused on the patient’s specific medical history, and can make better treatment decisions.
