The Challenge
We are stuck in an analog pediatric workflow.
Radiographic bone age assessment is a part of the clinical assessment of skeletal maturity to diagnose growth disorders and decision-making for therapies delaying or preventing physical growth and development. Conventional measurement of hand radiographs for assessing bone age according to the Greulich & Pyle method is tedious, taking up to 9 minutes. Using lookup tables and comparing pictures manually with the Greulich & Pyle reference atlas requires high focus and precision, often resulting in a significant intra- and inter-reader variability.
The Solution
An example in applying AI-supported software in pediatric image analysis.
IB Lab PANDA applies for the latest advances in AI network technology to provide a swift and fully automated solution to calculate the bone age according to Greulich & Pyle. PANDA offers a standardized solution to facilitate the monitoring of child growth and development.
IB Labs PANDA is unique in its way of achieving a zero-click, seamless integration into existing reporting workflows. Industry-standard output formats enable customizable report generation. Results are calculated within seconds, stored in PACS, and are available in the DICOM viewer as printable PDF reports for the referring physicians.
Opportunities for physicians and patients
We bring the Digital Age into Pediatric Radiology
- Full digital assessment workflow saves time: less than 5 seconds for calculating and reporting the pediatric bone age according to Greulich & Pyle
- Reducing reader fatigue enhances the consistency in reading and reporting of hand radiographs for bone age and height estimation
- Standardized time-series analyses facilitate monitoring and forecasting of physicians’ therapeutic success
